Artist statement

Mandy Merkel, born in East-Berlin in 1986, has a strong bond with her city, where she has lived ever since. Despite early creative adventures, she didn't consistently pursue art. In 2020, after a decade without serious practice, she returned to creating. Since then, she's explored various techniques, focusing on painting, printing, textiles, and photography.

Mandy’s current body of work is primarily centered around mixed-media paintings that explore themes of flora and fauna, combining organic motifs with intricate textures and vibrant layers. Her exploration of nature is deeply rooted in her appreciation for the environment and its intricate relationships. Alongside her painting practice, Mandy has developed a strong passion for photography, where she emphasizes architectural subjects, focusing on unusual perspectives and the interaction between humans and their environments.

At the moment, Mandy continues to delve into new artistic directions, particularly in photography, painting, and fabric art. With a growing interest in constant and consistent practice, Mandy dedicates herself to daily art-making or art-related activities, continually enriching her creative expression.
