Artist statement
Ezgi was born in 1990 in the beautiful Mediterranean coastal city of Mersin whose diverse history and cultural heritage have fueled her imagination immensely. As a child who played around the city’s ancient ruins, she was always fascinated by the artworks and mythology that humans created as a means to tell stories about their perception of life - stories which, of course, made their existence a little more meaningful.
Driven by questions like ‘What are we doing here?’ and inspired by the sound of the sea, Ezgi has been painting, drawing, and writing since an early age. Her sole motivation is to express her colorful fantasies as much as to find answers to her never-ending existential questions about life, death, and the human psyche.
Influenced by Expressionism, Surrealism, Symbolism, Magical Realism, and Outsider Art, she creates artworks where viewers are invited to participate in and complete the story that she is telling, thus transforming her art into a journey into the depths of their inner world.
